Thanks to Scooters Originali for the great tubes. With an offset 90 degree stem, installation was a breeze.

Bringing back the body work

IMG_0387
The sticker says it all. This bike has been around the block a few times and it was showing its age. The original paint is still there and it’s in pretty good shape. Since it’s only original once, we set put in some work trying to save it.

Elbow grease and some steel wool can remove surface rust. In the photo above you can see the before and after of this effort.

And after the work is complete, the entire leg shield is looking great and it’s ready to be remounted on the frame.

The floorboards had to be repainted. They’re also ready to be installed on the bike now.

Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning

IMG_0352IMG_1109When you’re rebuilding an old bike you spend a lot time cleaning. A big bucket of Evapo-Rust and a couple of friends like Adam and Shawn are what you need to get the job done. On the left you can see an assortment of bits and pieces that needed to be cleaned. On the right the front fender is soaking to make the clean up easy.

And  these are the happy helpers!

Rally Registration – Do it now!

We really want you to come to the Curd Rally. You may have noticed already.

Preregistration for the rally is on from now until July 31. If you register now, you get free patch and you get 5 free raffle tickets. The patch is beautiful, but trust me, you WANT the raffle tickets. The prizes in our raffle are always great, but this year the raffle is bigger than ever and we’re raffling off an Series 3 li 150. Corey’s been busy getting the bike raffle and road worthy and you can look through this blog to see a lot of pictures of the work that’s gone into it.

If you don’t register before the end of July, you’ll be able to register on site, but we’d love to know that you’re coming either way.

ps – I didn’t mean it. Don’t register now, and don’t by raffle tickets. I want to win the bike myself. 🙂

Vintage Scooter Pics from LIFE

Check out these great vintage photos on lambrettista.net. Anyone in for a photo shoot at the Curd Rally this year? We’ve already got a vintage fire truck coming to the rally.

I don’t know exactly what’s doing on here… but there are some clues. Firstly the location is  clearly San Fransisco… and specifically the Golden Gate Bridge. I wonder if any of my US readers remember the Berkley Scooter Shop? On the front of one the TV’s there’s a badge for “Al (Second name unreadable)* San Francisco” is also the pic of Warren Carver… who, his badge is “Road Captain” of the Pioneer Scooter Club, SF. Though I reckon he really wanted to be in the California Highway Patrol… Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (4) 8efb9f3faeba3a50_largeMotor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (2)87d5af60a7c00277_large299d58ebc547b539_large111333d3f3c6f90c_largef84f5c6407c9b509_largeMotor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (1)  Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (3)  Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (5)Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (6)3aea680563a33803_largeMotor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (8)Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (9)Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (12)Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (13)Motor Scooter Squabble in California, ca. 1960s (20) The event looks like some sort of protest… I’m guessing from the pic of the dude on the Vespa, and the signage, it’s something to do with banning motorcycles from certain roads. There’s a couple of pics of people looking at maps trying to figure out alternative routes.

Swap Meet

New to this year’s Curd Rally is a swap meet. Bring out any parts that have been cluttering your basements and garages for too long. There’s a good chance that someone needs that stuff and you can turn it into a little cash or trade for something that you’ve been looking for. We’re planning on holding the swap meet at the campground after we return from the group ride.

Check out the schedule for the weekend on our details page.
